Eight thousand cases of violence recorded last year in schools

The International School Day of Non-Violence and Peace is celebrated on January 30. Data collected by the Ministry of Education and Research show that about 8,000 cases of violence in educational institutions were registered in 2024, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry, the most common forms of violence identified include physical aggression, child neglect, bullying and emotional violence. Also, 29 cases of labor exploitation and 35 cases of sexual abuse were recorded.

These figures indicate a decrease compared to 2023, when more than 8,300 cases of violence were reported. However, there are still situations that are not reported on time.

By marking the International School Day of Non-Violence and Peace, the authorities affirm their commitment to ensuring a safe, inclusive and respectful educational environment for all students. Both the Ministry of Education and the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau condemn any form of violence.

"Preventing and combating violence in educational institutions is a priority for the Ministry, being essential for the harmonious development of each child," noted the Ministry of Education.

"Violence has no place in schools. Regardless of the form it takes – physical, verbal, emotional or online – any act of aggression affects the healthy development of students and creates barriers in the educational process," reads a press release from the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports.
