Architecture and Urbanism Department (DGAU) of the capital examines the possibility to place 22 parking zones on the streets parallel and perpendicular to avenue Stefan cel Mare si Sfant, on the streets Mihail Kogalniceanu – Mitropolit Varlaam – Tighina – Banulescu-Bodoni. The cars continue to be parked on the sidewalk and carriageway, as there are no parking lots. The 22 parking zones, which will function only in the daytime, have a capacity of 1500 lots. At present, DGAU cooperates with sanitary and ecologist services in order to get the approval allowing parking activity. Nicon Zaporojan, department deputy head, noted that the list of parking zones shall be presented for approval to Municipal Council until May, but these cannot function without a special regulation, which has to be approved by the Government. The regulation was drafted by Public Transport Department and mayoralty already submitted it to the Government. Parking zones in Chisinau municipality were forbidden by a Government decision few years ago. According to Public Transport Public and Communications Department data, capital mayoralty was collecting monthly cash revenues of about 100,000 lei due to these parking zones.
