Project to implement New Computerized Transit System in Moldova launched


A project was launched to implement the New Computerized Transit System (NCTS) in Moldova, which is financed by the European Union and is implemented by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Diana Levchenco, economic consultant of the Economic Council working under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, said the implementation of the NCTS, which is a key instrument in customs administration, has been long awaited by the business community. This will ensure connection with the trans-European system, facilitating significantly the crossing of the state border.

Chisinau hosts Tourism Industry Symposium with experts from nine states


The Tourism Industry Symposium in Chisinau brings together experts from nine states who will present the development prospects of the tourism industry centered on global tendencies and good practices in the field. In the opening remarks, Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan said the experience of foreign professionals is important. “Moldova cannot be anything and everywhere. Uniqueness and authenticity are the most important qualities for us. What the Republic of Moldova can offer is so individual that this uniqueness can become extremely attractive to global tourists,” stated Sergiu Prodan.

Traders complain about problems following cancelation of patent, seek moratorium

The annulment of the entrepreneur’s patent for retail trade and the switchover to other forms of activity resulted in faults, said representatives of patentees who seek a moratorium on this process. One of the signaled problems is that the sales slip that traders have to issue in accordance with the new rules contains personal data.  The name/surname of the trader and the address that coincides with the domicile and even the 13-digit ID number appear on it. 


Representatives of patentees ask to question minister Alaiba in Parliament

Representatives of patent holders said the assertion that 95% of the patentees switched over to another form of activity is not true as the process in ATU Gagauzia hasn’t even started. They demand that Minister of Economic Development and Digitization Dumitru Alaiba should report in Parliament on the implementation of the changes related to the annulment of the entrepreneur’s patent for retail trade and the switchover to other forms of activity.

The two countries have always upheld the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit and non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and have given each other firm support in matters of sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese side always respects the development path chosen independently by Moldova, China’s Ambassador to Moldova Yan Wenbin stated at the reception on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the Proclamation of the People’s Republic of China.

Andrei Spînu: Airport modernization tax will no longer be imposed next year

The airport modernization tax imposed by the previous concessionaire will be fully removed, assured Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu. According to the official, the tax of €9 was halved and will be fully excluded next year. The authorities are looking for investments of at least €200 million for modernizing the airport, but do not intend to concede again the facility.

Giurgiulesti Port development project presented

The Giurgiulesti State Port will be developed so that in five years it can operate at its full potential, declared Andrei Spînu, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, in a press conference on Wednesday.

The development project involves attracting a private partner to be selected in an international tender.

Subsidies to be provided to drugstores opened in villages


The national network of drugstores consists of 1,510 authorized pharmacies. These are located non-uniformly and are concentrated in municipalities and district centers. Out of 1,477 villages, only 418 have local pharmacies. To extend the network in rural areas, the authorities designed a bill to offer subsidies.

Energocom will purchase electricity from MGRES in October too

SA Energocom will continue buying electrical energy from MGRES (Kuchurgan power plant) in October as well. The conditions of the contract that was extended on Friday remained unchanged, as did the purchasing price, which is US$66 per MWh, IPN reports.

In October, MGRES will supply 305,000 MWh, which is approximately 85% of the needs on the right side of the Nistru, said Energocom.

Gross external debt up by nearly 7% in first half of 2023


Moldova’s gross foreign debt increased by 6.8% compared to the end of 2022. As of June 30, it totaled $10.24 billion. According to preliminary NBM data, the ratio of gross external debt to GDP was 67.2%, 1.1 point higher than at the end of last year.

Public external debt represented 34.9% of the total external debt, amounting to $3.57 billion (+9.5% compared to the end of 2022). Private external debt amounted to $6.67 billion, up by 5.3%.
