Fuel prices go up


Fuels grow more expensive again. The National Agency for Energy Regulation announced higher price ceilings for Tuesday. A liter of gasoline COR 95 will cost 24.70 lei/liter, by 0.10 lei more than today, while the diesel fuel will be sold for 22.26 lei/liter, up 0.15 lei.

● TUESDAY, March 07

Tomato prices might go up as Turkey suspends exports until mid-April


Turkey is suspending tomato exports until mid-April and the horticulture business news resource EastFruit suggests this might cause a price jump in countries that depend on Turkish imports, including Moldova.

Banking system last year made 3.6bn lei profit


The national banking system in 2022 made 3.6 billion lei profit, up over 58% compared with the end of 2021. According to the National Bank of Moldova (NBM), the profit grew primarily as a result of the rise in interest income and non-interest income.

Official reserve assets over US$60m down in February

The official reserve assets in February declined by US$60.68 million to US$4.542,02 billion after hitting a record high in January. According to the National Bank of Moldova, the decline was due to depreciation of the currencies that form part of the official reserve assets (US$47.52m) and to the payments made to service the external public debt of the Republic of Moldova, in the amount of US$17.24 million. There were also reassessed the securities held in the investment portfolio (US$8.53m).

Moldova can export processed meat and eggs to EU

The Republic of Moldova was authorized to export processed meat and eggs for consumption to the European Union. The amendments to the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/404 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2021/405 of 24 March 2021, by which Moldova is given this right, were published today.

Air Moldova rents three aircraft to operate part of scheduled flights


Air Moldova airline rented three planes from European companies to operate a part of the scheduled flights and will gradually resume operations on March 11, the company informed through a press release. The airline said that it is in the process of overcoming the difficulties and reorganizing its operations so as to honor its obligations to passengers.

IMF's Alfred Kammer: We have a strong partnership with Moldova


Moldova has a $800 million deal with the International Monetary Fund. The money will contribute to the development of the country and to raising people’s living standards, says Alfred Kammer, director of the IMF’s European Department, in conclusion of his visit to Chisinau during March 8-10. According to him, the IMF experts encourage the authorities in Chisinau to create a safe environment for the private sector in order to foster investment.
