Each tenth accident is caused by drunk drivers

89% of the accidents that happened on the national roads so far this year were caused by drivers. In a meeting of the National Council for Road Safety on April 22, Minister of the Interior Alexei Roibu said the number of traffic accidents decreased compared with the corresponding period last year, but the situation remains worrisome, Info-Prim Neo reports. The minister said most of the drivers do not have the appropriate training. Each second accident is caused by speeding, while each tenth accident – by inebriated drivers. So far this year the traffic police imposed fines of over 9 million lei, 4 million lei of which were paid. Prime Minister Vlad Filat asked that a report on how the drivers are trained and solutions for improving the training process be presented at the next meeting. He spoke about the project to set up video cameras in Chisinau and instructed by the Ministry of the Inferior to work out a similar project for the entire country. According to the traffic police, the about 600 traffic accidents that occurred in Moldova since January resulted in 75 deaths and 767 persons injured.
