The independent newspaper “Timpul de Dimineata” marks on September 14 its 5th anniversary. The director of the newspaper, Constantin Tanase declared for Info-Prim Neo that during this period “Timpul” managed to rehabilitate the notion of “information” and to become a national daily with 5 numbers per week, and all this despite the critics, who said that there is no culture and tradition in this respect in Moldova. The Journalists of “Timpul” accepted the challenge and during these 5 years they managed to defy this phobia. Constantin Tanase says he sees the anniversary of the publication in the light of the situation of the whole media from Moldova, especially of the independent one, which has a great evolution in the last years. The activity performed in really hard political conditions is extremely unfavorable, when the government strives to liquidate the independent press, when the advertisement inflow is directed towards the Russian press, when the readers who do not feel the necessity of prompt information is only a effect of the former regime, which the cited source hopes will be overcome in the future. The head of “Timpul de dimineata” says that he is optimistic and believes that the process is irreversible, and the future belongs to the independent press, despite the tough years to come. “There were more difficult periods in this little country, but it managed to rise up its head”, Tanase said. In order to be successful, the cited source says that the press should unite. Otherwise, some are “eaten” today, other will be tomorrow, because alone no one can feel protected. Its worth to mention in this context the case of Pro TV Chisinau. Tanase considers the press from Moldova needs a Press Club, which would defend its interests.
