Drugs estimated at 5 million lei were discovered in a minibus during a border inspection at the entry point into the Republic of Moldova. The narcotics were hidden inside an electric scooter placed under the rear seat of the vehicle, IPN reports.
After disassembling the electric scooter's battery cover, authorities found three packages containing beige, white, and grayish-brown powders, weighing a total of approximately 3,500 grams, suspected to be drugs.
Police had been investigating the trafficking scheme for over six months, documenting the criminal activity of a group consisting of four members.
The suspects, aged between 25 and 46, are believed to have smuggled synthetic drugs into the country multiple times for later distribution. They concealed the narcotics in various types of equipment to make them harder to detect.
Under current legislation, individuals accused of such crimes face prison sentences ranging from 7 to 15 years.
