Drought relief coming to Moldova from Turkey
Turkey is offering humanitarian assistance worth $250,000 to help Moldova alleviate the effects of this summer’s drought.
According to sources within the Turkish Embassy in Moldova, 10 lorries loaded with foodstuff are already on their way to Moldova. The humanitarian aid is expected to cross the Moldovan border on Monday, November 5.
7 lorries carrying 103 tonnes of flour, 40 tonnes of potatoes and 4 tonnes of rice will be brought to Chisinau. The remaining 3 trucks will bring 44 tonnes of flour, 20 tonnes of potatoes and 2 tonnes of rice to the Gagauz autonomy in southern Moldova.
According to official estimates, this year’s drought has caused losses of nearly 12 billion lei to the national economy.
