Drivers who commit minor violations will get off with a warning. Under what conditions?

Drivers who commit violations that have no significant impact on public order and public safety will get warnings but not fines. One condition is that the person concerned must not have been penalized within the last year for committing a similar offence. They must also have paid all fines imposed for previous offenses, IPN reports.

The warning will only be issued by the inspecting officer, without referring the case to the court, in cases where the two conditions are met cumulatively.

According to the document, among the infringements that will be punishable by a warning only are the operation of vehicles with technical defects in the braking system or steering mechanism, lighting or signaling devices, as well as driving a vehicle with an indecipherable registration number or with an incorrectly placed number plate. It also covers failure to comply with the requirements for the use of lighting devices at night or in conditions of reduced visibility; failure to connect the dipped or daytime running lamps in headlights.

"The project supports the intention to make responsible traffic participants whose illegal actions generate insignificant consequences for public order and public safety, offering the possibility of alternative application of a non - pecuniary sanction", reads the information note of the legislative initiative.

The document is to be approved by Parliament in its second and final reading.
