The Chisinau Center for Road Traffic Monitoring and Control started to process the violations of traffic rules in real time on February 1. In the morning hours, the surveillance cameras fixed over 400 violations.
The Center’s head Dan Chirita has told IPN that vehicle owners will receive notices about the imposed fines at home in about 14 days. If the owner didn’t drive the car when the violation was committed, they must submit a statement to the police and communicate who drove the car.
Surveillance cameras to monitor traffic were set up in 25 intersections in Chisinau. By the end of April, the number is to be extended to 41. Until 2015, surveillance cameras will be installed in 250 intersections all over the country, within a project that is supported by the People’s Republic of China. It provided US$4.5 million, while the Government of Moldova allocated another 6.5 million lei for assembly and construction works and for telecommunications.
