The driver who mortally injured a pedestrian on Dacia Blvd in Chisinau on September 4 was in an advanced state of inebriation, IPN reports, with reference to the General Police Inspectorate.
After hitting the 76-year-old man, the driver tried to flee the scene. Being detained, he refused to take the breath test. The police insisted on taking biological samples to determine whether or not he was under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
The result of the expertise showed a blood alcohol level of 1.85 g/l. The driver, who is a foreign citizen, is in preventive detention.
The pedestrian was crossing the street by the crosswalk. The impact was so strong that the man died on the spot. The car moved a few hundred meters onward and overturned.
