A group of small landowners from Drepcăuți village, Briceni district, are accusing an economic operator of illegally seizing 600 hectares of their land. The peasants told a press conference, featuring MP Alexandru Slusari, that the business is well-connected and allegedly enjoys the protection of a PDM lawmaker.

Slusari said the plots of land were “abusively” took under tenancy in 2012-2013. When the tenant failed to pay the rent for two years, the peasants took legal action and were successful in every court. Finally, an irreversible decision was passed in 2018 also in their favor. “Even the captured judiciary could not but find their claims legitimate,” declared Slusari. Nevertheless, the enterprise refuses to effectively return the land. 
 

Ana Gheciu, speaking on behalf of 300 small landowners from Drepcăuți, the former tenant also refuses to pay the 50 million lei damages awarded by the court.  She went on to claim that the effective beneficiaries of the company are Democratic MP Violeta Ivanov and her relatives, including the district sheriff. Ana Gheciu called on Parliament, the Government and the President to intervene.
