Dorm No. 1 of the student campus of “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy was inaugurated after being extensively reconstructed. Over 240 available places have been distributed to first-and second-year students, IPN reports.
In the inaugural event, the University’s rector Emil Ceban said the training of specialists with higher education for the national health system requires a lot of time, considerable efforts and specific conditions both for the educational process and for recreation and living. Therefore, the doctors’ training and moral health depend on the living conditions of the students of their University. Improving the living cognitions for students, doctoral students and residents is the main objective stipulated in the strategy for developing “Nicolae Testemițanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
According to Marcel Abraş, pro-rector for social activity at the University, Dorm No. 1 was in a bad state and didn’t meet the standards ensured by the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy. The dorm has a reading hall with 40 places, including a group work room, which is outfitted with the necessary equipment and free Wi-Fi and also with other amenities to facilitate student life. The pro-rector called on the University’s students to keep the conditions in the dorm for the next generations.
The dorm has over 4,000 square meters of dwelling space, 110 apartments, 30 of which are intended for three persons each, 70 apartments are designed for two persons each and ten apartments are intended for one person each. Access to the dorm is based on Face ID. The dorm has a video surveillance system that monitors all the common use places, the corridor, the entrance, the perimeter of the dorm. There are cameras even inside the elevators, said Gheorghe Buruiană, head of the Association of Medical Students and Residents of Moldova.
The students accommodated at the dorm said they are satisfied with the conditions in which they live. Dorm No. 1 was outfitted with modern equipment, furniture of a high quality and an advanced security system. This will simulate the students to study much better.
The extensive works performed at Dorm No. 1 included the re-planning of the spaces into two-, three-, four- and five-room apartments that include sanitary and cooking facilities. Two elevators were set up in the building. The dorm also includes a laundry room and a drying room. The reconstruction works started in April 2022.
