Mayor general of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca will continue to stay under house arrest during the next 25 days. The decision was taken by the Buiucani branch of the Court of Chisinau on July 14. The judge accepted partially the request of anticorruption officers, who asked for house arrest for a 30-day period, IPN reports.
After the decision was pronounced, Dorin Chirtoaca said he is not guilty and will challenge this decision in the Appeals Court. “I have no other solution than to resist all these challenges. I gradually reached the conclusion that they want to damage my image. I do not yet understand the accusations made against me. I hope they will ascertain that I correctly fulfilled my duties,” he stated.
The prosecutor in this case Dumitru Robu said the case of the mayor general of Chisinau will be sent to court in the near future. On July 12, the mayor was charged on a new count. “Now he is accused of committing two offenses – influence peddling and passive corruption of considerable extent,” stated Dumitru Robu.
The mayor was arrested on May 25. One day later, he was charged with influence peddling in the case of pay parking lots and was placed under hour arrest.
