The mayor of Chisinau’s ordinance by which May 9 is declared Europe Day in the municipality of Chisinau, was annulled by the court. The announcement was made by Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca in the ordinary meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.

The mayor said the decision to annul the celebration of Europe Day in Chisinau was taken following an application filed by a group of Socialists MPs. The abrogation decision was upheld by the Supreme Court of Justice for the reason that the right to amend formative documents for instituting a holiday belongs to Parliament.

In Chisinau, Europe Day has been celebrated since 2008.
