The first deputy chairman of the PL Dorin Chirtoaca, in the program “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, said that he heard about the possible defection of Iurie Leanca from the PLDM last September. “On separate occasions, I spoke with Iurie Leanca, after the attempt to vote him Prime Minister, and asked him if a return to the negotiating table is possible. He said the chance was missed and it will be now harder to return to the negotiations. Iurie Leanca is a man of good faith and really wants a European course with decentralization and reforms so that in 2018, when elections are held again, there is a chance for the pro-European parties to win. Now things are difficult only with statements and with no reforms,” stated Dorin Chirtoaca, quoted by IPN.
He noted that not the PL was prevented from taking part in governance, but the EU project was prevented from being implemented because the EU proposed a formula for forming the government with the participation of the PL. Initially, each party agreed with the formula suggested by the Europeans, but in a joint PLDM-PDM-PL meeting, those from the PDM said they have to hold discussions inside the party first, and the PLDM said the same. Afterward, the PDM declared that a deadlock was reached in the negotiations. “They rejected the UE’s offer. It was later clear that an agreement was reached with somebody else. The EU was turned down, not the PL. Thus, Iurie Leanca decided to leave the PLDM, because what will happen next runs counter to his objectives,” said the Liberal leader.
Asked if Iurie Leanca would be welcomed to the PL, Dorin Chirtoaca said it’s not the moment to make comments and to speculate as the atmosphere may be poisoned without a need.
He noted that Iurie Leanca knew about the agreements reached with the PCRM, but went in Parliament to ask for a vote of confidence in order to take his last chance, being supported by the European partners. “The PL takes part in political processes. Being in power, we agreed to vote for Iurie Leanca and proposed him for premiership in 2013. We now also wanted to support a Government headed by Leanca and presented the European government formula. But the PDM and PLDM rejected it and asked for our votes. It’s not right to ask for something instead of something else that may happen two months later,” said the mayor of Chisinau.
Dorin Chirtoaca stated the PL is still waiting to be invited to the negotiations with the formula proposed by the EU, so as to return to power. No early elections will take place and these are only an invention used to justify an alliance with the Communists.
