Dodon group ready to examine apolitical candidates put forward by AEI and PCRM
Electing an apolitical candidate for the presidency and re-forming the government are the only viable solutions for overcoming the political crisis and avoiding early elections, the leader of the parliamentary group of the Socialists Igor Dodon reiterated on November 18. He said that the three lawmakers who left the Communist faction are ready to examine the apolitical candidates proposed by the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) and the Communist Party (PCRM), Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We were and will be consistent. We are ready to vote for an apolitical candidate coming from outside the ruling alliance, who would be independent from the influence of parties and whose election will enable to re-form the government, as this would be normal and the people want this to happen,” said the MP.
According to him, neither the approach of the AEI nor that of the PCRM is constructive. The AEI insisted on its candidate though it was clear that he wouldn’t be elected. The PCRM withdrew from the negotiations. Igor Dodon condemned the PCRM and the AEI for such behavior, saying they set a date for the presidential elections, but were unable to identify a compromise candidate or at least to field their own candidates.
Igor Dodon stressed that only an apolitical candidate has chances to be elected as head of state. “We, the members of the parliamentary group of the Socialists, proposed Zinaida Grecianyi as a worthy, apolitical candidate. We expect the AEI and the PCRM to field apolitical candidates too so that we together try to reach a political consensus and vote in the head of state,” said the lawmaker.
Igor Dodon, Zinaida Greceanyi and Veronica Abramchuk left the Communist parliamentary group on November 4. Zinaida Greceanyi has never been a member of the PCRM.
