Dodon about Plahotniuc: Our goal is to trace him and bring him home

The Ministry of the Interior will repeatedly request Interpol to put the former Democratic leader Vlad Plahotniuc on the wanted list after the U.S. Department of State a week ago publicly designated this, making him ineligible for visas to the U.S., President Igor Dodon announced after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council, IPN reports.

“We are following two lines. The first line is to have him put on the wanted list. The Ministry of the Interior, which is a local partner of Interpol, last October requested to list Vlad Plahotniuc as wanted. By the end of last year, the Lyon headquarters hadn’t accepted this initiative of the Republic of Moldova. After this information came from the U.S., we repeatedly asked that the Ministry of the Interior should make again approaches to Interpol,” President Dodon told reporters.

He noted that the second line is Moldova’s bilateral relations with the United States, the UK and other countries with which permanent contact is maintained. “Our goal is to trace him and bring him home,” stated Igor Dodon.

On January 13, U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo announced that the former Moldovan official Vladimir Plahotniuc was designated publicly due to involvement in significant corruption and is ineligible for visas to the United States.
