Documents of refugees benefiting from temporary protection extended by one year

The documents of Ukrainian refugees benefiting from temporary protection will be automatically extended for a period of one year, until March 1, 2026. A draft decision in this regard was approved by the Cabinet at the proposal of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, IPN reports.

Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin said that the move simplifies administrative procedures. "Displaced persons can continue their activities, including work and education, contributing to the economy and life of the community," noted the minister.

According to the authorities, the decision allows avoiding the overload of the asylum system and the risks associated with irregular migration.

"Through this initiative, Moldova demonstrates stability and responsibility in managing humanitarian crises, aligning itself with European values and strengthening the European path," added Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

According to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 87,600 people have applied for temporary protection in the Republic of Moldova as of March 1, 2023. Of these, 68,600 people received identity documents of the beneficiary of temporary protection.
