A division head and a narcologist of the Orhei District Hospital are investigated in a corruption case. They received bribes to speed up the process of issuing medical certificates to drivers and candidates for obtaining a driver’s license, as well as other types of medical certificates without the physical presence of the applicant. On Monday, the National Anticorruption Center (NAC) carried out searches, IPN reports.
The head of the Consultative Division and the narcologist are investigated in at least 15 episodes of systemic corruption. In order to speed up the process of issuing medical certificates, they allegedly asked for illicit amounts ranging between 800 and 1,500 lei. The employees of the Orhei District Hospital were summoned to the NAC headquarters to be questioned and classed as suspects in the case of passive corruption committed in aggravating circumstances.
Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said that although she sent countless anticorruption messages to the health workers, many turned a blind eye to them and continued their “hard work” to increase personal income at the expense of people’s pain and problems. “Shock solutions will be applied to them and we thank our fellows from the NAC, who have worked well in the health sector, helping us to strengthen the capacities of the health system and transform it into an integral one. Some of those who were shaken up today at the Orhei District Center do not give up the dream of getting back into director’s chairs. I would recommend them to resign on their own so as to ease our work,” stated the minister.
According to her, the Ministry’s desideratum remains the same for everyone – zero tolerance of corruption. “We will continue to invest in pay raises, allowances and other motivational monetary policies, provide modern equipment and improve infrastructure conditions. To some of you, I repeat – stop stealing from citizens’ pockets. Leave the system if you suffer from kleptomania. Do not destroy the image of so many good, great professionals who work with dedication in the system,” said the minister.
