The 600th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Poland was celebrated in Chisinau on April 15 by a symphonic concert at the National Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich”. The event involved the symphonic orchestra of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, directed by Polish conductor Pavel Kotla, and two soloists from Turkey, IPN reports.
The cultural attaché of the Polish Embassy in Chisinau Jerzy Stankiewicz said the concert was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Turkey, while the famous conductor Pavel Kotla ended his stay in Chisinau by participating in the symphonic concert staged by the two embassies.
Turkey’s Ambassador to Moldova Mehmet Selim Kartal said that cultural events of the kind are held in parallel in a number of countries. The idea of organizing a symphonic concert in Chisinau was put forward by the two embassies, owing to the receptive and special public.
“We do this to show that we can do nice things together. Even if for someone the Ottoman Empire was an invading one because it occupied many territories, the two states remained friends and now, in 600 years, we show once again that this friendship existed and continues to exist,” said the Turkish diplomat.
The program included works by such composers as Ludwig van Beethoven, Frederic Chopin and Henryk Wieniawski and Turkish folk songs, oriental songs and rhapsodies on Moldovan themes.
