Diplomatic first in Kyiv: Popsoi stands with Ukraine in the fight for freedom

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mihai Popsoi, attended the inaugural Ukraine–Southeast Europe ministerial meeting in Kyiv. This unprecedented event brought together foreign ministers from the region in a show of solidarity with Ukraine, IPN reports.

The delegation laid flowers and observed a moment of silence at Kyiv’s “Wall of Remembrance”, honoring lives lost in Ukraine’s fight for freedom.

“The war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine is a tragedy affecting not just Ukraine but the entire region. We stand with the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom, sovereignty, and democracy,” said Mihai Popsoi.

Diplomatic milestone and a message of unity

The first Ukraine–Southeast Europe ministerial meeting was hosted by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The meeting aimed to strengthen regional cooperation and send a clear message of support for Ukraine.

“I am delighted to host this historic meeting. We discussed stability, hybrid threats, and European integration. We have adopted a joint statement reaffirming our unity and strength”, said Sybiha.

The ministers present strongly condemned Russia’s aggression and emphasized the importance of sustained international support for Ukraine. They reiterated that peace and stability in Europe are unattainable without a fair and lasting resolution for Ukraine.

Commitments for the future

At the conclusion of the meeting, the foreign ministers adopted a joint declaration expressing unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity. They underscored the need for continued military, economic, and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine, as well as the importance of contributing to the country’s reconstruction efforts.
