Economic operators will be able to apply for the certificate of preferential origin of goods exclusively electronically. This will become possible from March 17 with the pilot launch of the modernized version of the SICOM module - Information System for Certificates of Origin of Goods of the Information System "ASYCUDA World", IPN reports.
According to the Customs Service, one of the biggest advantages of this initiative is the total elimination of paper documents. Thus, economic operators will no longer have to submit applications or supporting documents in physical format. All documents can be submitted and processed electronically.
Moreover, communication between the customs authority and traders will take place exclusively via the Information System messaging system, and any request for additional information will be able to be made quickly online.
"Digitalization of customs processes is a strategic priority. We will significantly reduce processing time, completely eliminate paper documents and ensure maximum transparency, bringing the Customs Service in line with international best practices," says Alexandru Iacub, Director of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova.
The initiative is part of the project "Digitalization of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova", financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and implemented by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
