Diaspora Days held in Chisinau

The Diaspora Days are staged in Chisinau for the second consecutive year, between August 28 and 30. In the opening of the event, Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said he wants the Moldovans from the country and the expatriates to go together towards a better future. He assured the representatives of the diaspora that their voice will be heard, IPN reports.

“I’m glad that many Moldovans managed to assert themselves in countries where nobody knew them and they became valuable people with a high standing in society and with a say. I thank you for consistently promoting Moldova’s image and for actively becoming involved in activities aimed at familiarizing the foreigners with the traditions, culture and qualities of our people, which are appreciated all over the world,” stated Valeriu Strelet.

The Premier called on the representatives of the Moldovan diaspora to take part in the finalization of the strategy “Diaspora-2025”, which will contribute to building a platform for communication between the Moldovan authorities and the expats. “As a Prime Minister, I want to assure you that your voice will be heard, first of all through the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, while the requests you made on a number of occasions are also on our list of priorities,” said Valeriu Strelet.

Valeriu Turea, director of the Bureau for Diaspora Relations, said there are launched two days of very important debates that they hope will not end in this hall, but will have continuity in the programs that will be implemented in concert.

On the first day of the event, the draft strategy “Diaspora – 2025” was presented and consulted publicly. There was also discussed the engagement and realization of the human potential of the diaspora. On August 29, the representatives of the diaspora will make public seven project conceptions aimed at strengthening the capacities to mobilize the diaspora with a view to drafting and implementing social, economic and education projects at their place of birth in Moldova. These are designed to support the Moldovan Government’s efforts to integrate the diaspora and migration into the national development strategies. The Bureau for Diaspora Relations encouraged the communities to celebrate the day of August 30 at local level by different activities, such as instructive and informative workshops, open-air meetings, gatherings, reading and other events.

The Diaspora Days are held in Moldova with the aim of promoting cultural and economic dialogue at the diaspora – country level and of mobilizing the diaspora associations and civil society so that they contribute to the sustainable development and promotion of the country abroad by joint activities.
