Deputy Premier Nicu Popescu meets high-ranking officials in Berlin

The integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union was discussed by Deputy Premier Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, with Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock in Berlin. The Moldovan official thanked for the support offered within the Moldova Support Platform that was launched on the initiative of Germany, Romania and France last April. The fourth conference of the kind will be held in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Also, Deputy Premier Popescu discussed the progress made by the Moldovan authorities in fulfilling the recommendations put forward by the European Commission and in transposing the Community acquis to the national legislation with Minister of State for Europe and Climate of Germany Anna Luehrmann.



In the discussions with the chairman of the German Bundestag’s Committee on Foreign Affairs Michael Roth and Federal Chancellor’s foreign policy adviser Jens Plotner, Nicu Popescu underlined the importance of interparliamentary cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Germany.

“In the context of the current regional security situation, I had a meeting with State Secretary to the Minister of Defense Siemtje Moller. We conferred on the strengthening of cooperation with Germany in the field of security and defense, the more important role played by the Republic of Moldova as a regional security partner and our country’s determination to take an active part in the EU peacekeeping and international security strengthening missions,” said Nicu Popescu.



The meeting with the Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Nobert Lammert centered on the foreign policy priorities of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, the ongoing reform process and the German support in this regard.



While in Berlin, the Moldovan official took part in a presentation hosted by the European Council on Foreign Relations where he spoke about Moldova’s integration into the EU and how the Republics of Moldova manages to cope with the multiple hybrid attacks.



“We also talked about the preparations for the second European Political Community Summit that will take place on June 1, 2023. The summit represents important diplomatic support for the Republic of Moldova in a difficult period and the expression of our commitment to contribute to a peaceful, stable and thriving Europe,” stated Nicu Popescu.
