Denis Vieru went through a stage of the World Judo Championship that is held in Budapest. In the 66 kg weight class, he defeated Eisa Majrashi of Saudi Arabia, IPN reports.

In the second round, Vieru was beaten by Russia’s Mihail Puliaev, who qualified for the semifinals.  The competition in Hungary also involves Norin Tatarescu (73kg class), Nicon Zaboroshchuk (81kg), Dorin Gotonoaga (81kg) and Denis Takii (100kg).

The best result for Moldova in judo at the World Championship was obtained by Victor Florescu. In 1999, he won silver.
