People from all the country’s districts came to Chisinau to support the ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU. They carried Moldova’s flag alongside the EU’s flag, IPN reports.

“I was in the European Union and saw how the Europeans live and what work conditions they have. That’s why I came here, to support Moldova’s European path. We must make effort and change the mentality so that we have decent living conditions. We have been turned into zombies. This accord means guaranteed human rights and removal of corruption,” said Efim Mardari from Rezina district.

Ion Barbalata from Briceni district said that many Moldovans have relatives working in the EU and the Association Agreement will open more opportunities for them.

Maria Coleshov from Cimislia town said the Association Agreement means economic development, prosperity and freedom. “My children left for Italy today. They didn’t need a visa and this is very good. We have waited for such freedom for a long period of time,” said the woman.

Sergiu Caraus, from Anenii Noi, said that he is waiting for a change. “I hope it will be better than together with the Russians. The ideas are different. For me, the EU means workplaces. The people who are here came to witness this historical moment not because they were forced to. They came because they have waited for this change for a long time. I think at the beginning we need foreign specialists to teach us to make use of the new opportunities,” he said.

According to the police, the demonstration involved several thousand people. The section of Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Blvd up to Banulescu Bodoni St was closed.
