Democrats ask Communist rulers to create fair conditions for all electoral competitors
The Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM) asks the government to create fair conditions for all the electoral competitors, to give up pressing opposition politicians and to contribute to creating an atmosphere of free competition in the country. A statement issued by PDM reads that only this way Moldova has the chance to evolve in its dialog with the European Union (EU) and make true the dream of the people to live in a democratic and civilized state, Info-Prim Neo reports.
PDM says it pleads for political stability and fair political competition. “We consider the parliamentary elections in the spring of 2009 will represent a decisive test for the Moldovan society concerning its capacity to adjust to the European values and to have the moral right to claim to be accepted in the European community of the democratic peoples.”
According to PDM, any deviation from the democratic norms, related to the 2009 elections, will severely affect Moldova's European perspective, what will be a real risk for the difficult process of building Moldova's statehood.
PDM says it is not among the parties fearing not to pass over the electoral threshold. At the same time, the party says it is inadmissible when any government modifies the Electoral Code for the sake of staying in power. It's inadmissible when the public television has “a black list” of people the present rulers would like to isolate from the Moldovan society, the declaration points out.
PDM says it backs up the idea of speeding up the signing of a new arrangement with the EU, a document deemed to ease the Moldo-EU cooperation. Yet, it has but a single condition: the government shall publicly assume its responsibility for the fairness of the coming parliamentary elections.
