Members of the movement “Democracy at Home” Wednesday expressed their dissatisfaction with Agriculture Ministry Valeriu Cosarciuc's proposal to allow the nonresidents to purchase land in Moldova. The young people demand that the Government take attitude towards this initiative and threaten they will stage protests if the measure is accepted, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry set the price of a hectare of farmland at €2,000. Moldova has over 1.7 million hectares of such land. If we do some calculators, we determine that Moldova can be bought for € 3.5 billion. It means that someone will come with money some day and buy us all,” Vasile Costiuc, a member of the movement's initiative group, said during a flashmob meeting. He also said that the governors should be ashamed as the land lies follow and the farmers cannot sell their products. “If the governors are wise they will accept our attitude towards these things. Moldova cannot be sold,” said Alina Popa, another representative of the movement. The young people signed a statement intended for the Government, but no minister came out to talk to them. “This shows that they are responsible and do not take care of the people and the land that we inherited from our ancestors” said Vasile Costiuc. The young members of the movement chanted “We do not want to be slaves in our country, “Moldova is not for sale”, “We have an incompetent Government”, “Moldova belongs to our descendents'” and others. The bill on the sale of farmland to foreigners was submitted by Minister Valeriu Cosarciuc to the Government for examination.
