The decisions to support the Party of Socialists’ candidate for Parliament Speaker taken by the Party “Action and Solidarity” and the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” thwarted Socialists’ and Democrats’ scenario concerning cooperation in the legislature. Now the Socialists will show their real intentions as they have no excuse to reject the eventual cooperation with ACUM at the moment. The issue was developed in the talk show “Politics of Natalia Morari” on TV8 channel, IPN reports.

Director of the Institute for Strategic Initiatives Andrei Popov said these decisions are both intelligent and perspicacious and also mature from political viewpoint.

According to him, if the Socialists and the Democrats had focused on the perspective of snap elections, the leader of the PDM wouldn’t have said in public that the party is ready to vote a Socialist candidate as Speaker and the Socialists wouldn’t have declared they want to see what the Democrats suggest. These are signs showing that the PDM and PSRM will cooperate in Parliament.

“The Socialists would have announced that the negotiations with the Bloc ACUM failed. Together with the media holding of the PDM and the holding of the PSRM, they would have shifted the blame onto the ambitions, rigidity, incompetence and lack of political responsibility of ACUM, accusing them of wanting posts, including those of Speaker and Prime Minister, and a compromise wouldn’t have been achieved. I think the National Council of the Socialists would have decided that we should save the country from snap elections in such circumstances and should see what the Democrats propose,” stated Andrei Popov.

“WatchDog” expert Valeriu Pașa said he sees three scenarios in the current situation: a common vote for a particular period of time between the Bloc ACUM and the PSRM; snap parliamentary elections by keeping the current institutions, and the common vote of the Socialists and the Democrats. He noted that if the PSRM rejects the Bloc ACUM’s offer, this will show the party does its best for the Democratic Party to remain in power. The moment of truth came and the Socialists have no excuse to reject a cooperation arrangement with the Bloc ACUM.
