Deceitful trade practices at Chisinau beauty parlor

A 45 year old woman from Cahul was persuaded by a vendor to buy on credit a set of cosmetics for 20,000 lei. Shortly after, the woman realized she wouldn't be able to pay the loan and decided to cancel the contract, but the vendor refused to take back the products. As a result, the woman called the Agency for the Protection of Consumers (APC), IPN reports.

The woman said she was called by an unknown person who claimed to be the employee of a beauty parlor in Chisinau and invited her for an hour of free cosmetic procedures and the presentation of some products. After she accepted, the woman was asked to bring her ID card. She came from Cahul to the beauty parlor in Chisinau and received a 3 hour cosmetic treatment with various products.

Then, she was proposed to buy the cosmetic products she liked. The full price was 35,000 lei, but it would drop to 20,000 lei if she bought them right away. Because she had no money, the parlor employees convinced her to buy the set on credit. Impressed by the quality of service and the effects of the treatment, she agreed. However, back home she realized that the purchase was beyond her means and decided to cancel the contract. The beauty parlor rejected her request. The woman then complained to the Agency for the Protection of Consumers.

The institution's spokeswoman Lilia Cojocaru says that APC agents carried out an inspection of the parlor and found a series of violations. The vendor used deceitful practices and some products didn't meet legal requirements. As a result, the cosmetic products were temporarily banned and the deceitful practices forbidden. The parlor accepted to cancel the contract with the woman on the condition she paid for three of the products she had unpacked and used, priced at 2000 lei
