Death rate in Moldova in 2016 lower than a year before

The National Bureau of Statistics said the death rate in the Republic of Moldova in 2016 was by 3.6% lower than in 2015. A number of 38,490 persons died last year, by 1,416 fewer than in in 2015, IPN reports.

The lowest death rates were recorded in Chisinau, Balti, Ialoveni, Cahul, ATU Gagauzia, Dubasari, Anenii Noi, Straseni, Sangerei and Cantemir, while the highest rates in Donduseni, Soldanesti, Rascani, Briceni, Floresti, Ocnita, Drochia and Edinet.

Some 57.0% of the deaths were caused by heart diseases, 16.2% by tumors, 9.6% by diseases of the digestive system, 7% by accidents, poisonings and traumas, 4.4% by diseases of the respiratory system, while 5.8% by other disorders.
