Dead swan found on the banks of the Nistru river tested positive for avian flu

A dead swan was found on the banks of the Nistru River in Soroca district. Laboratory tests confirmed that the bird was infected with avian flu, IPN reports.

Authorities have approved a plan of preventive measures to stop the spread of the infection. Additionally, an emergency meeting of the District Commission for Exceptional Situations has been requested, followed by the Municipal Commission's meeting.

"We want to inform the public that avian flu is a virus that can be transmitted from birds to humans and is highly contagious," warned Iurie Tanase, Vice President of the district.

Residents in the area are advised to avoid direct contact with wild birds and to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling domestic birds.
