A demonstration of taking and analyzing samples of water from the Nistru River to determine its quality will be staged at the Romanita tourist base in Vadul lui Voda town on May 27, starting at 9am. The event is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment on the occasion of the Day of the Nistru, IPN reports.
The event will include a general presentation of the situation on the Nistru and solutions for protecting this and an exhibition of instruments confiscated from poachers and another one of drawings showing the Nistru.
The Nistru is the largest river in Moldova and the ninth largest river in Europe. It has an annual flow capacity of about 10 km3. It is the main source of drinking water for the capital city of Moldova and a series of localities situated along its course. It starts in Ukraine, from near the border with Poland.
By a decision adopted in 2008, Parliament instituted the Day of the Nistru that is celebrated on the last Sunday of May.
