Daniel Ionita: Trade between Moldova and Romania reached record high

The value of trade between Moldova and Romania reached a record high last year - over one billion US dollars, Romanian Ambassador Daniel Ionita said on Vocea Basarabiei TV, IPN reports.

“Romania is Moldova’s most important trade partner. The EU as a whole accounts for 70% of Moldova’s trade with the world”, said the diplomat.

“I want these relations to continue in a similar vein in the future. I also hope that all the laws are fully respected and that the foreign investors’ signals are heard and catered to”, said Ionita.

The ambassador assured that Romania will fulfill all its commitments regarding the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipe.

Commenting on the results of the February 24 elections, Daniel Ionita said the international community is in a period of strategic waiting.

Romania’s position regarding the elections was the usual one: it supports Moldova’s European trajectory and development and it considers that Moldova can advance towards the EU only by promoting the reforms that are necessary and desired by the people. “I am confident that as long as Moldova remains oriented westwards, Romania has no reason to change its approach”, he explained.

The official noted that Romania had a long series of projects at various stages of implementation throughout Moldova. “We want stability and security at our eastern border, a chance for prosperity for all Moldovan citizens”, concluded Ionita.
