Damaged Otaci building taken down

The damaged building in Otaci town which collapsed partially on June 19 has been razed after the remaining apartments were deemed unsafe to live in. Today workers will start to dispose of the debris, the Emergencies Inspectorate said in a press release.

A laser sensor system has been used at the site to prevent any damage of the structures located within a 30 meters range.

On June 19, about 50 people were evacuated from their homes before a staircase of the apartment block collapsed. No one was hurt. Until the government finds a solution, the survivors have found shelter at relatives.

At the latest Government press conference on this subject, on July 9, prime minister Maia Sandu said she was shocked to learn that apartment prices in Otaci started to soar on reports that the government would buy new flats for those affected. Meanwhile, estimations continue to establish the size of compensations.
