Dacia eliminated from Champions League
Dacia Chisinau failed to qualify for the next Champions League round. The Yellow Wolves won the second leg against Zestafoni Georgia 2-0, but this wasn’t enough as they had lost the away game 0-3, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Moldovan champions started the game with confidence, creating several scoring chances from the very beginning. On 20 minutes, Dumitru Popovici opened the score. Dacia’s hopes got a boost when Gongadze was eliminated in the second half. However, the Moldovan outfit failed to convert the numerous goal opportunities until the last minute of the game, when Ghenadie Orbu netted from a penalty spot.
After the final whistle, the two teams picked up a fight and the Dacia coach Igor Dobrovolski got involved as well. “A player from their team dared swear at me!”, he thundered at the press conference. He then added that Zestafoni wouldn’t get far in the European competitions. The Georgian coach, Georgi Geguciadze, was unhappy with the post-match events as well. “I can’t explain Dacia’s aggressive behavior both on and off the pitch. We came here to play, not to fight”, said Geguciadze.
It’s the second time this summer when a Georgian side eliminates a Moldovan team. Two weeks ago, Dinamo Tbilisi bested Milsami Orhei in two legs.
In the next Champions League qualifying round, Zestafoni will meet Sturm Graz from Austria.
