The inhabitants of an apartment block from the capital are concerned about several trees and bushes cut down and consider that the cuttings were made illegally, without demanding their agreement. Two nut-trees aged 30, and 2 cherry trees were cut down, on Friday, June2, in a courtyard on the street Ginta Latina of the capital. The inhabitant of the block 3/3 on Ginta Latina Street, Victoria Ciobanu, reported that on Friday, in this courtyard a truck ride in with three persons wearing camouflage uniforms and having a chainsaw. They started to cut down the trees, and when the inhabitants got involved, they presented a petition, signed by two inhabitants of the block, with the signature, as they say, of the interim mayor Vasile Ursu. When the scandal extended, the men left, failing to cut down all the trees from their list. She mentioned that, previously, the trees were cleaned by the employees of the Green Spaces Management Association and were in good condition. The interim mayor Vasile Ursu failed to give a retort to this, saying at first that „it is possible that…”, and than claiming he knows nothing. Neither the deputy commissioner of the municipality, Petru Corduneanu, nor the head of the Chisinau Territorial Organization of Ecologist Movement, Vladimir Garaba, knows anything about this case. According to Garaba, cutting down trees in summer time is forbidden, except the cases when they endanger the inhabitants’ life. At the same time, he noted, the cuttings are done only according to the capital mayor’s decision, after the expertise and with the authorization of Municipal Ecological Agency. At his turn, the deputy head of the Ecologic Agency, Vladimir Ciobanu, does not know if such authorization exists. The head of the district Ciocana, Ion Gabura, also mentioned that he required the appropriate services of the district to investigate the case. He convened on Monday, at 14;00, a meeting where the case of the street 3/3 Ginta Latina would be discussed. On the other hand, the management of the Green Spaces Management Association makes contradictory statements regarding the involvement of their employees in cutting down trees in Ciocana district. While deputy head Eliferie Haruta says that the employees of the Association are not involved in any way as there was no decision in this respect, and they do not wear camouflage at all, the other deputy head of the same institution, Galina Leahu, said that the cuttings were made at the request of several inhabitants of the nominated block on the ground that the trees were near the house and endangered the inhabitants’ life. According to the petition, signed by the inhabitants of two apartments, 3rd and 6th, many trees had to be cut down. The inspector of the Green Spaces Management Association, Veronica Ursu, who made the checking, signed the request and the Municipal Ecologic Agency did not allow this. The investigations in this sense are to continue.
