Cultural institutions from over 20 districts devise cultural strategies

Cultural institutions from more than 20 districts have worked out cultural strategies for the next four years within the project “Reinforcing Moldova’s development capacities by strengthening its cultural sector,” Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference, Katherine Watson, director of the European Cultural Foundation that implemented the project, said that the three-year project (2007-2010) invested in people and their capacity to manage projects in the area of culture. The project aimed to stimulate and facilitate the open dialogue between the nongovernmental sector and decision makers from the area of culture by debates, interactive training seminars and case studies that help the cultural managers to find financial resources and identify the local cultural potential. Victoria Miron, program director of Soros Foundation Moldova, said that the greatest success of the project was the development of the people of culture’s capacities to manage by themselves the cultural institution and to look for financial resources to develop the given area in the settlement where they live. Veaceslav Reabcinschi, director of the Cultural Policies Center, said that the authorities should support the cultural policies implemented at local level in more than 20 districts of Moldova. Romanian expert Corina Racean stressed that within the project the heads of district cultural divisions were trained how to find by themselves possibilities of developing the area that they manage. “The project helped the cutlural players to dicover those types of resources that help,” the expert said. The total budget of the project was €465,000. The money was provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands through the program ”Matra”, the European Cultural Foundation and Soros Foundation Moldova.
