Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gerasimov said that Romania is Moldova’s main supporter in the process of joining the European Union. The official made the statement during a working visit paid to Bucharest at the invitation of the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminita Odobescu, IPN reports.
According to the Government’s press service, Cristina Gerasimov and Luminita Odobescu discussed the next steps on Moldova’s European path. They also conferred on the results of the Deputy Prime Minister’s recent visit to Brussels, during which the first stage of evaluation of Moldova’s legislation with that of the EU was launched.
The ways in which the Republic of Moldova can borrow and put into practice concrete examples from Romania’s experience in the accession process were analyzed.
“Undoubtedly, Romania is our main supporter in the accession to the EU and we are glad to have a reliable friend and partner by our side. Our relations are stronger than ever and we will continue to deepen them in the spirit of our strategic partnership and the community of language, culture and history,” said Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gerasimov.
The Moldovan official also had a meeting with the President of the Romanian Senate Nicolae Ciucă. The interlocutors discussed Moldova’s European path and the progress made in the process of joining the EU. “I noted that the integration into the big family of the European Union is priority zero of the authorities in Chisinau and we will continue to work so that this goal becomes a reality as soon as possible,” stated Cristina Gerasimov.
The official thanked Romania for its unconditional support, including in obtaining the positive vote for opening accession negotiations. “I received a firm message of support for our European path and also assurances that Romania will continue to stand by the Republic of Moldova,” said Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gerasimov.
