The crisis in the Transnistrian region is worsening. The situation will yet become gloomier as the temperatures ae expected to drop. After some time, the businesses that ceased operations can face irreversible consequences. The statements were made by the so-called minister of economy of the Transnistrian region Sergei Obolonik in an interview with the Belarusian press, IPN reports.
Sergei Obolonik noted that society in the region is mobilized to the maximum and, on the eve of the crisis, the so-called Transnistrian authorities took all possible measures to provide the medical system with heat and electricity. Therefore, at the moment, the institutions operating in this sector are working under a normal regime. The elderly people in placement centers, children in orphanages, people in psychoneurological hospitals were all transferred to institutions that are heated.
In the meantime, the industrial sector has stopped. All enterprises ceased operations, except for those that ensure food security. The so-called minister of economy stressed that, after some time, the businesses that do not operate can experience irreversible consequences as the people are left without income and have to feed families. Although some enterprises switched to night shifts, this is not possible for all, said Sergei Obolonik.
He noted that the gas reserves are enough by the end of January and will be directed to the medical and social protection system. The official from Tiraspol said that the Transnistrian region is waiting for assistance from the Russian Federation, "which has always offered them support".
"On behalf of the Republic of Moldova, they proposed us to go and buy gas. I think that, probably, aid is something else (...) However, statements were made on Friday that if a solution is found, gas will be delivered to us without obstacles," noted Sergei Obolonik.
The state of emergency in the Transnistrian region was extended until February 8.
