Crisis cell set up in connection with bad weather

The authorities decided to create a crisis cell consisting of representatives of a number of subdivisions that will deal with situations of risk caused by the meteorological conditions. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the situation now is difficult, but is under control, IPN reports.

The Service’s head Mihai Harabagiu told a news conference that on the Premier’s instructions, representatives of the power supplier, the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure and the Ministry of Health were included in the crisis cell. These will intervene depending on the gravity of cases, but the cases involving children and elderly people will be given priority.

Currently, 140 settlements remain disconnected from the supply of electricity. The local, national and international roads are passable. The situation is more difficult in Chisinau municipality, where a number of trees were downed and rescuers, alongside workers of the Green Areas Association, take action to alleviate the consequences. A number of 100 carabineer were involved and there was created a reserve of 100 persons from the Police Academy, who will be summoned if need be.

Chief of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Panzari said 20 road accidents occurred in the morning of April 20. There were reported over 80 cases of damage caused to cars by downed trees. In Botanica district of Chisinau, a person was hospitalized after a tree branch fell down on this. The roads to Hancesti, Orhei, Dubasari and to Troita Noua village in Anenii Noi district, towards Causeni, are hardly passable. About 120 police teams are patrolling public roads, while 40 teams work in Chisinau.

Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Iurie Usurelu told the same news conference that the Ministry constituted a commission to monitor the situation and assess the damage caused by the elements. Preliminarily, it was established that the snow affected the peach, apricot, cherry, plum and other kinds of trees. In the case of crops, the situation will be examined when precipitation stops.

In emergencies, the population is strongly advised to call 901 or 902.
