Cricova penitentiaries monitored by Prosecutor’s Office

The Prosecutor’s Office of Rascani district of Chisinau started a legal case over the attempts to transmit banned objects and substances to prisoners in the semi closed-type penitentiary No.4 and the closed-type penitentiary No. 15, which are based in Cricova town of Chisinau municipality, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on October 18, prosecutor of Rascani Igor Popa said that the persons who illegally pass over things to detainees face criminal punishment. The prosecutors do not exclude that employees of the penitentiaries may be involved in these cases. The illegally transmitted things include mobile phones and accessories for them, SIM cards, money, playing cards, alcoholic drinks, and narcotic substances. They are passed on by persons who are allowed short and long meetings with the detainees. The banned objects are hidden in clothes and bags, under the belt, in the underwear and socks or are thrown on the territory of the penitentiary from the street, over the fence. The prosecutors asked performing broad investigations, including ambushes and unplanned inspections. The prosecutors propose setting up metallic nets on the masked fence and prevention fence inside the banned area as well as video recording devices on the penitentiaries’ territory. They also suggest that the checkpoints at the penitentiaries in Cricova should be equipped with metal detectors and jamming devices.
