The Moldovan wineries Cricova and Milestii Mici have been placed on UNESCO's World Heritage Tentative List. According to the Ministry of Culture in Chișinău, these two national heritage sites aim to secure a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as they represent an industrial heritage adapted for tourism and winemaking, IPN reports.
The two wineries meet several key criteria, including serving as testimonies of a cultural tradition, being remarkable architectural and technological examples, and exemplifying human interaction with the environment.
Cricova boasts galleries spanning over 120 km and produces 2 million bottles of sparkling wine annually using the traditional French method, with a national collection of 1.3 million bottles. Milestii Mici Winery, with its 55 km of galleries, holds the world's largest underground wine cellar, recognized by Guinness World Records in 2005.
