A district court today annulled the decision of the Chisinau Electoral Council to deny registration to Andrei Donică, of the Speranța-Nadejda Movement, in the Chisinau mayoral race.

“Thank you for this act of justice. The CEC is now obliged to register me as a candidate for Chisinau mayor”, commented Donică.

The ruling may be appealed. Viorica Gadîmba, the president of the Council, could not be reached immediately for a comment by IPN.

Whereas the electoral body readily accepted Speranța-Nadejda Movement’s candidates for municipal councilor posts, Donică was denied registration as a mayoral hopeful on grounds that he already stands for re-election in the suburban village of Condrița.
