Court of Appeals cancels CEC decisions on holding elections in two localities

The Court of Appeals cancelled the decisions of the Central Election Commission concerning the elections in Buteni, Hancesti district, and Chirca, Anenii Noi district. The court decision was announced during the commission’s meeting on Tuesday, September 4. CEC affirms that it will appeal the decision of the Court of Appeals in the higher court. At the same meeting, CEC granted the city councillor’s mandate to Serghei Cires, listed in the Humanist Party of Moldova, replacing the leader of the party, Ion Mereuta, who withdrew his mandate. The organization of elections in Buteni and Chirca aroused contradictory discussions in CEC’s session on August 28. Concerning Buteni, CEC decided by voting that a new election is needed in the town, while a part of the members opted for rerun elections with the exclusion of the candidate from “Our Moldova” Alliance, who obtained the majority of the votes. A similar situation was recorded in Chirca village. Some of CEC’s members suggested rerun elections, excluding the independent candidate who won, for violating the rules. However, the majority of the members didn’t approve the proposal. About 100 persons, representing both of the localities, participated at the session on August 28 and supported the two candidates.
