Court of Accounts audit reveals irregularities in MoI's management
The Ministry of the Interior (MoI) removed 80% of the irregularities identified in the previous audit report of the Court of Accounts, but even so, there is room for improvement in the management of its finances and property, noted Victor Munteanu, a Court of Accounts official.
The latest audit report by the Court of Accounts has shown that over 250 of the real property items and a number of plots with a total area of 181 hectares held by the MoI are not yet registered with the Cadaster Agency, Info-Prim Neo reports.
A major omission is that 137 apartments allocated by the MoI to police officers were privatized by these officers without the Ministry's consent. Irregularities were also discovered in the management of humanitarian aid; for example, the value of 30 mobile houses was deflated by 13.4 million lei.
Further, procurement procedures are often not properly planned and contractual obligations are not always observed. Another finding is that the Ministry's Academy of Police operates without proper accreditation and establishes tuition fees in violation of the law.
Attending the presentation of the audit report, Minister Alexei Roibu said the findings would be discussed in all the Ministry's divisions and an action plan would be formulated to remove the irregularities, with an emphasis on the training of the staff involved in financial and property management.
