Countdown starts for Liberal-Democrats
The Liberal-Democratic Party (PLDM) has 19 days more to gather the necessary number of signatures to start a referendum on modifying the constitution. They say they have collected over 180,000 signatures out of 200,000 needed. Wednesday, the party leaders showed themselves confident they would be successful in this move, Info-Prim Neo reports.
PLDM leader, Vlad Filat, says the intimidations exerted by the rulers through law-enforcement bodies upon PLDM have repercussions and negatively influence the process of collecting signatures. He says people are afraid to sign not to be persecuted later. “These actions of the Communist leadership directly violate the citizens' right to participate in modifying the Constitution,” Vlad Filat said.
Vlad Filat says the Central Electoral Commission is considering a decision according to which it will have the right to ask for a graphology expertise as to the signatures on the lists, if it has any doubts. “I do not accept the term “doubts”, as this notion implies subjectivity,” Vlad Filat emphasized. He is mostly concerned that the expertise is to be made by an institution directly subordinated to the Justice Ministry, “the authority which initiated the illegal actions of law-enforcement bodies to raid on PLDM members out of any legal norm,” the politician said.
PLDM continues its moves to step up the signing of the Convention of the frontier minor traffic. Starting from mid-June, PLDM will organize meetings with citizens living in localities along the Prut to discuss the Government's possible refusal to sign the document.
