An inspector of the Basarabeasca Police Inspectorate was put on probation for a five-year period for asking money from a driver, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The court also fined the inspector 20,000 lei and banned him from holding public posts for a two-year period.

Last summer, the police officer asked for 2,300 lei from a motorist for not holding him accountable for driving under the influence. In exchange for this sum, the inspector was ready to give him back the driver’s license too. The policeman was arrested immediately after he took the money.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
