The prosecutors did their utmost in the investigation of the large thefts committed in the banking system and a number of cases will be soon sent to court, Prosecutor General Corneliu Gurin said in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“Some try to mislead society about the prosecutors’ activity in the case of bank frauds. On the contrary, enormous work was done in this regard. There were started legal cases over bad loans and professional negligence. The suspects’ property was sequestrated. If the court condemns them and confiscates their property, a part of the money will be restored,” stated Corneliu Gurin.

He noted that special attention is paid to the cases of corruption. “We wanted to see if we do things right and thus asked, together with the administration of the National Anticorruption Center, to be helped by a prosecutor from abroad. This act also generated criticism. Mariana Alexandru does not have the power to investigate cases by herself or to remit them to court. She will yet share her experience with us,” said the prosecutor general.

Referring to the protests mounted in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, Corneliu Gurin said he supports the protesters, but will not satisfy their demand to tender his resignation. “It is a democratic exercise and nobody can ban the people from protesting, until the protest is peaceful. I had a meeting with representatives of the protesters and their main demand was for me to resign. I will not resign until there are no reasons for doing this,” he stated.

The prosecutor general denied the fact that the post of prosecutor is in demand. “The prosecutors risk not only their lives, but also the security of their families. Many prosecutors ask themselves if the people realize the risks to which they expose themselves when they investigate difficult cases. We have over 100 vacant posts of prosecutor and the specialists do not hurry to occupy them,” said Corneliu Gurin.
